I was invited to a project in Beam by my GC, how do I send an estimate or bid?
When your GC invites you to a project, you'll send an estimate or bid first. Once it's approved, it becomes the subcontract you bill against.
When a general contractor invites you to a project in Beam, one of the first things you'll do is send them an estimate or bid. Once your GC approves it, that estimate becomes the subcontract you'll bill against. Here's how to submit one.
Before you start: You'll need an invite to the project from your GC. If you haven't gotten one, reach out to them directly.
- When your GC invites you to bid or bill, you'll get an email from Beam. Click View project to open it in Beam.
- Head to the Estimate tab and click Create estimate to begin. If you think your GC should be creating the estimate on their end instead, reach out to them directly before continuing.
- If you're new to Beam, you may see the Estimate with AI screen. Here you can upload any relevant plans or documents and add scope details, and Beam will draft the estimate for you. Each company gets 5 free AI estimates.
- To use the AI assistant, upload your plans, takeoffs, or spreadsheets, then add any other scope details it needs to build an accurate estimate.
- From there you'll move into the standard estimating view, where you can add and adjust all your line item details. For a deeper dive on estimating, check out estimating in Beam.
- Once everything's added, click Next: Review email.
- Review the email details, then click Send to submit your estimate to your GC.
That's it. Your project status will update to Estimating and your estimate status to Sent. Once your GC approves it, Beam generates a subcontract you can bill against, which is where creating and sending a bill to your GC picks up. 👈
