How can I set estimating rules for my entire team?

Set business-wide AI rules that guide how estimates are generated and edited.

AI Assistant Rules guide how the AI builds and edits estimates for your business. You can add custom rules by going to Settings ⚙️ then selecting Business from the menu bar to the left, and scrolling down to the AI Assistant Rules section.

You can set rules for any number of aspects of the estimate, from pricing to formatting to inclusions and verbiage.

Here are some common examples of rules you might add:

  • Pricing guidance: “Always use high-tier finishes for pricing” or “Our average price per sq ft is $X–$Y”
  • Formatting preferences: “Group estimates by trade” or “Always include quantities and units” or "Keep all line item descriptions concise"
  • Standard inclusions: “Always include permits, cleanup, and project management as a duration based general conditions item”
  • Exclusions: “Do not include appliances unless explicitly requested”
  • Assumptions: “Assume mid-grade materials unless otherwise specified”
  • References: "include local code references within item descriptions if indicated for a given scope within the uploaded document"

AI Assistant rules are powerful and should be used with caution. Rules should only be used for aspects of your process that are fundamental to the way you operate with no exception, as they can on occasion unwittingly override manual edits if your manual edit directly conflicts with a given rule.
